All ride selections are made by the members on the prior weekend rides. These are usually but not always rides selected from the Planning Calendar. Check it out and then come on a ride and make your preference known.


July 11th, Sunday, Gasworks - Seward Park - Beacon Hill
Ride Start: Gasworks Park, Seattle, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
SBC member cycling Interlaken Drive. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
Ride Distance: 25 miles.
Ride Terrain: Mixed Interurban.

Ride Details:
     Will take the standard route from Gasworks Park to Seward Park stopping by Mount Baker Beach to meet up with Sightline Cyclists on the way to promote community sustainability.
     Mid way break will be at Seward Park for a picnic compliments of Sightline Institute. If you plan on eating with group, be sure to register with Nicole so she will know how many people to plan for. Go to facebook page or email "nicole at sightline.org". Map to picnic.
     On the return trip we will turn off Lake Washington Blvd at Mount Baker Park and ride uphill to Beacon Hill. From the top of the hill we will take Beacon Avenue north over Capital Hill and return to Gasworks Park via scenic Interlaken Drive.

July 18th, Sunday, Ravensdale - Enumclaw (Scenic)
Ride Start: Ravensdale Park, Ravensdale, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
SBC Members relaxing at Ravensdale Park. Level: 12-14mph.
Ride Distance: 48 miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling Country.

Ride Details:
     Will take the scenic ride from Ravensdale Park to Enumclaw and back.
     Luncheon option at Charlie's, but recommend you bring a lunch for picnic in the park next to Charlie's or Nolte State Park (rider preference). Bring snacks and fluides for mid ride breaks.

July 24th, Saturday, Point Defiance Park / Tacoma Narrows Bridge
Ride Start: Thea's Park, Tacoma, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
Entrance to Point Defiance Park, Tacoma, WA. Level: Social and Intermediate.
Ride Distance: ~30 miles.
Ride Terrain: Mixed Urban - Rolling Hills.

Ride Details:
     Starting at Thea's Park in Tacoma, we will bicycle along Commencement Bay to Point Defiance Park. After a fun ride around the park on its famous Five-Mile Drive, we will bike across the Tacoma Narrows Bridge to Gig Harbor for lunch. On our return trip we will complete the loop around north Tacoma bringing us back to Thea's Park.
     Bring snacks with you for mid ride breaks or buy snacks along the way. This ride will include all the best of Tacoma so it is one you don't want to miss.

July 24th, Saturday, Informal Rattlesnake Lake - Hyak Tunnel
Ride Start: Rattlesnake Lake Trailhead - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9am for 9:30am start.
Rattle Snake Lake - near North Bend, WA. Levels: Social.
Ride Distance: 20-40 miles.
Ride Terrain: Off-road Trail.
Lead: Karl - khkawa at nwlink.com.
Ride Details:
     Meet at Rattlesnake Lake kiosk by lake for a fun ride on the John Wayne Trail towards Hyak.
     Trail is mostly finely packed gravel that has a gentle climb to the tunnel entrance. Mountain bike or hybrid tires are recommended. Bring food and water for mid ride breaks.

July 25th, Sun, Kirkland City Streets to Redmond Town Center
Ride Start: Juanita Beach Park, Kirkland, WA - Map/Directions.
(Meet across street from Juanita Beach Park at baseball field parking lot.)
Meet: 9:30am for 10am Start.
SBC Members at Juanita Bay Park. Level: Steady - 13-16 mph.
Ride Distance: ~35 miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling with some climbs.

Ride Details:
     Cycle on Kirkland city streets on BOTH the West and East sides of I-405, crossing over I-405 twice, on foot/bicycle bridges. Then, head south on 132nd Ave NE to Old Redmond Road. Swing by Redmond Town Center for lunch at Top Foods. Take the scenic Sammamish River Trail and Woodinville roads west to Wayne Golf Course. Ride back to Juanita Beach Park going south on 100th Ave NE.
     Bring snacks and fluids for mid ride break. Will stop at Top Foods in the Redmond Town Center for lunch and socializing.

July 31st, Saturday, Redhook Brewery - Lake Sammamish Loop
Ride Start: Redhook Brewery, Woodinville, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 9:30am for 10am start.
SBC Members at Redhook Brewery. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
Ride Distance: 33 miles.
Ride Terrain: Trail/Rolling.

Ride Details:
     Starting at the Redhook Brewery will ride south on the Lake Sammamish Trail to Marymoor Park for a fun loop around Lake Sammamish. Ride is all on trail or urban streets with bike lanes.
     Bring snacks/fluids for mid ride breaks along the route.
     After ride socializing and fun will be at the Redhook Brewery.

August 8th, Sunday, Issaquah - Renton - Maple Valley
Ride Start: Tibbetts Valley Park, Issaquah, WA - Map/Directions.
Meet: 8:30am for 9am start.
SBC Members riding rural King County roads. Levels: 13-15 mph on flats.
Ride Distance: 41 Miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling/Hilly Country.
Lead: Bonnie - "BLScott60_3" at "q.com".
Ride Details:
     Starting from Tibbetts Valley Park in Issaquah we will ride south over Cedar Mountain to Maple Valley for mid ride break. After lunch, we will return via the Lake Francis area and Tiger Mountain Road.
     This is a challenging route similar to Gasworks to Edmonds via Blue Ridge so you will have a few hills to climb. Likewise it is a very scenic route that you won't want to miss.
     Bring plenty of snacks and fluids for mid ride picnic lunch and/or snacks along the way.

August 15th, Sunday, Tour de Peaks
             Snoqualmie Valley Hospital Event
Tour de Peaks - North Bend, WA. Ride Start: Si View Park, North Bend, WA, Map.
Ride Distance: 6, 20, 30 or 70 miles.
Ride Terrain: Rolling or Rolling/Hilly.
Ride Details:
     All four rides START and END at the festival, and take you through the spectacular scenery of the Snoqualmie Valley with fantastic mountain and valley views.
     After registration, head over to the Mt. Si Senior Center two blocks away for a pancake breakfast sponsored by the Snoqualmie Valley Kiwanis.
     At ride end, hungry and thirsty riders can select from many different food vendors and visit the Rotary Beer Garden!
     Tour de Peaks features four fully-supported rides:

  • 6 mile Family Ride with Kids’ Zone
  • 20 mile Intermediate
  • 30 mile Metric Half Century
  • 70 mile Metric Century

    Squeaky Wheels - Bike for Pie.



    August 15th, Sunday, Bainbridge Island - Bike for Pie Ride
    Ride Start: Coleman Ferry Dock, Seattle, WA - Map/Directions.
    Meet: 8:15am for 8:40am ferry.
    SBC members getting ready for Bike for Pie - 2009. Levels: Social and Intermediate.
    Ride Distance: 30 miles.
    Ride Terrain: Hilly.

    Ride Details:
         For a fun change of pace event Kim and Ray are coordinating SBC member participation at the 7th Annual BIKE for PIE Ride. This is not the normal cycling event, but a 15 mile family or 30 mile challenge ride on Bainbridge Island to island pie stops.
         Members will gather in downtown Seattle for the 8:40am ferry to Bainbridge Island. On island everyone will cycle together to the ride start. The challenge ride starts at 10am and family ride starts at 10:30am. The ride will be moderately paced making it easy for all members. Course is open till 2pm or until everyone is SICK of pie.
         There is a requested $5 (family) or $15 (challenge) per person donation to help cover cost of pies. Click here for details.
         Along with $5/$15 donation, don't forget $7.90 ferry charge, see Washington State Ferry website.
         Advanced registration on Active.com, required. Prices rise from $15 to $20 after August 1st so plan ahead and save $5.
    Extra Ride Details:
         The challenge ride will have two pie stops - stop 1 on Day Road will have savory pies crafted from ingredients provided by local farmers. Stop 2 on the water at Fort Ward State Park will have fruit pies from local bakeries. There will be lots of pie to consume and an air of camaraderie.

    August 21st, Saturday, Wild Horse Wind Farm Bike Ride
    Ride Start: Wind Farm, Ellensburg, WA - Map/Directions.
    Meet: 9:45am for 10am Start.

    Ride Distance: 53 miles.
    Ride Terrain: Country Rolling.
    Ride Lead: Jerry - "jerryretzlaff" at gmail.com.
    Ride Details:
         The Wild Horse Wind Farm is 20 miles east of Ellensburg along the old highway to Vantage.
         Since wind farm tours are at 10am we will meet at the wind farm at 9:45am, take the 10am tour (~45 minutes) and start the ride from there afterwards. As you can see from the route (see below) there are lots of options to shorten the ride if we want to for any reason.
         Bring food/snacks. There will be no places along the route to buy anything until Ellensburg at around 2pm.

    August 28th, Saturday, Bainbridge Island Summer Challenge
    Hours: 7:30am - 4pm.
    BI Summer Challenge Bike Ride. Distance/Terrain: 13.5 or 35 miles - Hilly.

    Ride Details:
         If you have ridden the Chilly Hilly, you will enjoy riding roughly the same course in the opposite direction in our mild mid-August weather! Ride either 35 mile Summer Challenge or 13.5 mile Family Challenge.
         Ride at your own pace through urban, suburban & country roads. Stop anytime you feel like sightseeing! You are on island time. You will ride along beautiful shorelines with their cool breezes and spectacular views and on country roads through towering forests. Come for the ride; stay the weekend!
         Registration proceeds go to the Bainbridge Island Kiwanis Foundation, for youth oriented charity projects.

    September 19th, Sunday, Southworth - Port Orchard
    Ride Start: Fauntleroy Ferry Dock, West Seattle, WA - Map/Directions.
    Meet: 9:40am for 10:10am ferry.

    Ride Distance: 31 miles.
    Ride Terrain: Rolling.

    Ride Details:
         Ride will go from Southworth along the water through Manchester to Port Orchard. After a food stop at the Port Orchard Marina, will back track along the water to Southworth for the ferry home to Seattle. Bring $6.30 for ferry charge.

    September 25th, Saturday, Tour de Whidbey
                 Whidbey General Hospital Foundation Event
    Ride Start: Greenbank Farm, Coupeville, WA.
    Tour de Whidbey - 2007. Meet/Start: 9am at registration desk.
    Ride Distance: 10, 28, 40, 50, 60 or 100 miles.
    Ride Terrain: Rolling or Rolling/Hilly.
    Ride Details:
         Join other members on this year's Tour de Whidbey. For details, click here.
         Catch the 7am or 7:30am ferry from Mukilteo to Clinton, start riding at 9am, giving everyone time to get to the start and eat a nice stack of pancakes before leaving.
         Registration is 7-9:30am at Greenbank Farm where all rides begin and end except the Family 10 mile loop which begins and ends in the Historic Waterfront Town of Coupeville.
